Over the past decades, high fructose corn syrup has emerged as a better alternative to sugar. It’s found in thousands of foods, from cereals and fruit juices to low-carb chocolate and protein bars.
Our Favorite Fitness Apps
Science shows that keeping a food diary and tracking your weight loss and goals can produce far better results when it comes to losing weight and getting into shape.
Below you’ll find a list of a few smartphone fitness apps that we utilize frequently as part of our workout and weight loss routine:
1. Lose It!
Lose It! is a powerful calorie counting app that also functions as a goal tracker and food diary. Its simplified interface allows for quick scanning of barcodes directly into the Lose It! database. You can easily view day to day or week by week food intake as well as exercise activities that you’ve tracked. The Lose It! Snap It feature uses image recognition to determine the calories in the food that you are eating simply by taking a picture and is one of the most accurate we’ve seen to date.
* Available on iOS and Android
2. RunKeeper
Are you an avid runner? If so, then RunKeeper is an app that should be added to your list. With RunKeeper, you have the ability to track your runs, follow a plan as well as perform various challenges. Are you preparing for a 10K? RunKeeper can also use your GPS for tracking your entire run.
* Available on iOS and Android
3. Fooducate
Simply tracking your calories and workouts is not enough. With all of the highly processed foods and sugary drinks on the market today and their link to various cancers and other diseases, knowing the actual contents of the food or drink that you are consuming is a must (garbage in, garbage out!). This is where Fooducate shines. Fooducate offers a letter grade and details for each item that you scan the barcode of. This information is extremely valuable, as you can then select foods and drinks that are healthier choices for you and your family and avoid the bad ones.
* Available on iOS and Android
Yesterday we mentioned a 5 minute workout routine that you can do when you’re on vacation or away from your home or gym. If you’re looking to add some moderation to your “away” routine, then download the 7 Minute Workout app. We are fans of moderation and love switching it up from time to time.
* Available on iOS and Android
5. Fitbit
We love using our activity trackers, wearables and scales, which is why we recommend using the Fitbit app whenever possible. What better way to incorporate and integrate all of your workouts and calorie counting into one place. Although a Fitbit tracker isn’t necessary for using the general functions of the app, the major benefits come from pairing both the Fitbit tracker and the app together. Once paired, your activity is automatically synced, making it easier to stay motivated and on schedule. We have suggested the Fitbit Alta HR in the past, but also are fans of the Fitbit Charge 2. Both are great activity trackers that offer a tons of features.
* Available on iOS and Android
Most of the apps mentioned above have further integrations with one another, as well as other platforms. For example, Lose It! has integration with both Fitbit and RunKeeper.
Let us know your thoughts below. We would love to hear what other apps you use for staying in shape.
